Yacht
The dice game of small gambles. Five dice, three rolls a turn, and a card of thirteen boxes that each take one score. Keep the dice that help, roll the rest, and decide where the result does the least harm and the most good. Free, full screen, and it saves itself.
The game
Each turn starts with a roll of all five dice. You may roll again up to two more times, and before each roll you choose which dice to keep: tap a die and it moves up to the kept row, where it stays put while the others tumble. Tap it again to put it back in play. After the third roll the dice stay as they are.
Once the dice have landed, every open box on your card shows in grey what these dice would score there. Tap a box to score it and end your turn. You do not have to roll three times; score after the first roll if the dice are already good. Every box takes exactly one score, and sometimes the best move is to put a zero somewhere it will hurt least. A card is finished after thirteen turns, when every box is filled.
A slip of the finger is forgiven: the Take back button reopens the box you just scored and puts the dice back as they were, as long as you have not rolled again since.
The card
The top six boxes count only the matching dice, so three fives in the Fives box score fifteen. The lower boxes look for patterns: a set of three or four alike, a full house of three and two, a run of four or five in a row, five of a kind, or Chance, which takes anything.
| Box | Points |
|---|---|
| Ones | The ones added up |
| Twos | The twos added up |
| Threes | The threes added up |
| Fours | The fours added up |
| Fives | The fives added up |
| Sixes | The sixes added up |
| Bonus | 35 for 63 or more in the six above |
| Three of a kind | All five dice added up, with three of a kind |
| Four of a kind | All five dice added up, with four of a kind |
| Full House | 25 |
| Small Straight | 30 |
| Large Straight | 40 |
| Chance | All five dice added up |
| Yacht | 50 |
The bonus and the extra Yachts
If the six top boxes add up to 63 or more, you earn 35 more points. That is the same as three of each face, so a fourth six can make up for a weak Ones box. The card keeps a running count beside the bonus so you can see how close you are.
Five of a kind scores 50 in the Yacht box. Roll another one later and, if your Yacht box holds 50, you earn 100 more on top. Either way those dice must then go in the matching top box if it is still open. If it is not, they may go in any open lower box at its full value, so a full house or a run counts even though the dice are all alike. Only when the lower boxes are all filled do they go in an open top box, for zero.
Your scores
Stats keeps your games played and finished, your best total and your average. A card you leave is waiting when you come back, rolls and all. Starting a new game on a card you have already rolled counts as a game played and not finished.
The rules we play by
This is the familiar thirteen box card most people know from the boxed dice game, with the 35 point bonus at 63 and the 100 for each extra Yacht. Nothing is timed and there is no scoring for speed. A controller works too: the stick moves over the dice and the boxes, A holds a die or scores a box, and X rolls.
Anywhere, free
On a phone you can add the game to your home screen and it opens like an app, with the card above the dice and the Roll button under your thumb. There is a desktop app for Windows and Linux for people who want it in the taskbar. An account is optional and only saves your statistics and settings between devices. The same site has Minesweeper, Freecell, Klondike and Spider Solitaire, and Spades and Hearts to play with friends by a four letter code or invite link, all free.
